ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND TASKS:
- Under the direction of a supervisor, you will prepare complete detailed fabrication drawings of pipe systems from a scope of work and reference drawings provided by clients.
- Under the direction of the Project Manager & team leadership, the layout and design technician will provide accurate equipment & piping layouts. Accuracy of layouts is imperative for our project’s success. Must be able to use all traditional layout hand tools and instruments. Setting project benchmarks for elevations and verifying project coordinates.
- Verification of client supplied design packages including specifications.
- Provide the best combination of technical accuracy and practical application on all deliverables for shop fabrication and installation. Producing quality fabrication isometrics from owner supplied information.
- Back checking all design drawings & fabrication isometrics to project specifications and process instrument diagrams. Provide fabrication and erection details including support information.
- Should be able to coordinate work with other disciplines (civil, structural, sheet metal, electrical & HVAC).
- Must be able to perform independently on most assignments.
- Tracking of project installations.
- Material takeoffs for ordering purposes. Create and supply material orders to account management and other project team leaders.
- Supports the United Group Services team by performing additional duties as required.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum 2 years’ experience with designing piping systems, including the preparation of layouts/design drawings, fabrication, and erection details. Pipe sizing will be specified by engineer or client supplied documents.
- Minimum 2 years AutoCAD experience with version 2018 or later.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience checking designs, layouts, shop details, erection drawings and material list.
- Hexagon CADWorx Plant professional experience preferred.
- Travel is required and will be based on project award locations.
- 5 years field experience or journeyman pipefitter preferred.
- OSHA 10 or greater preferred
- Ability and experience to produce piping fabrication drawings from client provided documents.
- Has sufficient knowledge and familiarity with mechanical design principles to be able to address a wide range of situations.
- Knowledge of shop operations and fabrication practices required.
- Experience routing and measuring most mechanical systems with bolted and welded connections.
- Capable of calculating weights of finished members/components.
- Capable of working in both English and metric units required.
- Efficient with surveying and layout equipment. Traditional hand measuring tools are not provided. Theodolite experience preferred. 3d Scanning experience is not necessary but is a plus.
