GENERAL SUMMARY:

We are looking for an experienced and reliable Estimator to join the United team. The Estimator is responsible for Estimating bid packages that involve piping and share scope documents with other UGS estimators for trades we self-perform such as Equipment Setting, Structural Pipe Supports/Pipe-racks/Structural Platforms, Insulation, Scaffolding, and HVAC.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND TASKS:

  • Ability to identify most piping materials, valves, piping specialty items, piping instruments, and typical pipe supports. 
  • Ability to read and understand Scope of Work documents and determine our construction responsibilities.
  • Basic understanding of trades other than piping.
  • Prepare and issue bid package to subcontractors for trades we do not self-perform (Electrical, Civil, Plumbing, Fabrication/erection of large steel structures, Third Party Weld Testing, Painting, Passivation, etc.).
  • Ability to read and understand piping specifications.
  • Ability to list items taken off from piping documents on a standard takeoff sheet and list the items by their proper pipe specification.
  • Ability to read a client provided piping bill of materials and enter the items properly into a WinEst file.
  • Ability to read and takeoff items shown on Process and Instrument Diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Ability to read and takeoff items shown on piping isometric drawings. Should be able to understand the drawing shown, not just the items listed in the bill of materials.
  • Ability to read and takeoff items shown on piping orthographic (plan) drawings.
  • Ability to estimate small piping projects with minimal documentation based on field experience.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Five years or more of field experience with UGS or similar company.
  • Basic Microsoft Outlook skills, Basic Microsoft Word skills and Basic Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Ability to review 3D models.
  • Familiarity with other estimating software.
  • Field experience with structural pipe supports or minor structures that UGS typically installs.
  • Field experience with equipment setting that UGS typically performs.
  • Willingness to learn and use the WinEst software.
  • Ability to verbally communicate with clients, subcontractors, and material suppliers.
  • Willing to aid other estimators when workload allows.
  • Willing to work more than forty hours per week when necessary.
  • Highly organized with strong analytical skills.
  • Must be prepared to provide customer with a detailed breakdown of an estimate.
  • Ability to “think outside the box.” Example: Offering a better product during the estimating process when an item the client is requesting is not practical for the application.

  • 8 to 10-hour shift/ Day shift
  • Monday to Friday/ weekends as needed.
